Bug Description

While using LMDE 2011.09, when i try to change desktop background by clicking right in a previewed photo, the system says that my background has been changed. But i see that nothing has been changed and my ex desktop background still stays on the screen.
There is one way to change background, when i right click on the desktop and add the background which i want, i can change then.

Are you using Eye of Gnome as your image viewer?

When I open an image in Eye of Gnome, I am not able to set the picture as the desktop background. The program states that the image has been set as the desktop image, but it has not actually done so.

I am able to change the desktop image from other program such as F-Spot, so I don't think that this is an LMDE issue, but one with Eye of Gnome.

I am using LMDE Xfce and also cannot change the desktop wallpaper.

If I right click on the desktop and select "Change Desktop Background" nothing pops up for me to change it.
If I go through the taskbar menu -> Settings -> Settings Manager -> Desktop then I am presented with various desktop background choices, but no matter which one I select, the background does not change.

When I reboot for a brief few seconds the background I selected appears, then is replaced by the defaul Linuxmint Debian background.
