Can you try installing this package. It should solve your problem (at least it does here):

Let me know how it goes so that I can close the bugreport and upload the fix.

It does not fix the problem for me, but perhaps it is because I am running 64bit ubuntu?

Ok, I think I have fixed it for good. CJ, can you try this package and see if it solves the problem?

I am having the same problem as reported above (i.e. the KeyError: ' ') when trying to install ATI driver. The link to the .deb file that you give here won't install the package installer tells me "Error: a later version is already installed".

Thank you, EnvyNG ran fine now.

Unfortunately it doesn't work though, in Gutsy this worked great but now in Hardy it doen't seem to do the trick. When I try to enable desktop effects I still get a dialog telling me to enable the "ATI proprietary driver", perhaps I also need to edit xorg.conf in addition to running envyNG?
