Bug Description

Failed login should redirect to a standard Joomla failed login page. It does not. I suspect highly that the error lies inside the htaccess file, although I have no evidence to substantiate that. A quick search find a few posts if people encountering the same issues with Joomla 1.7.3, but without solutions.

Bug confirmed on my end.

Pretty easy to debug the htaccess issue: Just disable clean URLs. If it turns out that's the case, the next step is much more tricky.

The server owner / apache configuration has to have the RewriteLog enabled:

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_rewrite.html#RewriteLog

I tried to do this when I was having some rewrite troubles way back, but didn't have access to the necessary files. Perhaps you can get at them? If you enable the rewrite log, bounce this back to me and I can take care from there.
