I'm using the space one, I guess that kinda matches since Jupiter is up there too. But I believer eOS should have a custom one if anything

A black screen is most appropriate I believe

i don't think a blank screen is more appropriate, we need something beautiful.

Screensavers are not for beauty only. They serve a real purpose (to avoid damage to screens that have been left on).

It needs to be something that moves around a lot (not a black screen), and I think the idea of creating our own is a good one.

Also, Jupiter is named after the God, not the planet (and we don't want the screensaver to be release specific, I don't think), and the periodic table would not be appropriate because elementary the project uses a completely different definition of the word.

I'll mark this is triaged because I think it's a solid idea.

Modern screens can be left on for days without any damage. And black screen is the best screensaver for CRT monitors I believe...
I can tweak the "floating Ubuntu" screensaver to use elementary's logo. Well, I hope so at least - that floating X thing is very naughty, it may work fine for one SVG and if you tweak one symbol in Gedit is suddenly stops working. I haven't figured out what's the logic behind that behavior yet.

i agree with romanoff, there should be a screensaver, for the beauty of it and of course to protect the monitor.

The best screensaver for CRT is to have the monitor off :)

And while it is true that screensavers are not needed for the same reason as CRTs need them, they are still very much needed on LCD displays to avoid image persistence.

I cast my vote for not even including screensavers what so ever. It saves space (albeit just a little) and to turn off the screen after a short time per default would be to distribute a "green OS", which I find to be highly appropriate.

Looks like Ubuntu is going to have a custom (not GNOME 3 one) screensaver.

I think we should do our own one with cream DE ones as base for ours. I realy like the cream DE one. But with an "e" over the time and the date, it would look better I think.

I think the general consensus, last time it was discussed, was that it was better to just turn the display off.

As stated before, the periodic table has nothing to do with our brand.

I'm leaning towards this being a wont fix. Screeensavers are kind of an outdated concept, IMO.
