Bug Description

Compiz scale is one of those really fancy and really useful things that we have going on. But at the moment, its impossible to discover. I think having a regular launcher would make it really easy for people to stumble upon this functionality.

Where should such a launcher be? In the indicator bar?

No, I attached a .desktop and a script and such for use in the dock ;) Perhaps I'll make a branch and add an expo launcher as well and get it all prettied up so you can make a package for it.

for future reference, indicators indicate, they never launch.

hm, would this not look a bit stupid :/ and a waste of space in the dock IMHO.
What you think about setting the expo effect for the corner of the screen?

It's not that we ship 100 applications, and it's not permanent. I'm sure how you can "waste space in the dock" especially since this is an incredibly useful feature that most users won't ever see otherwise.

No hotcorners are not a good solution. For 1, users initiate them without realizing what happened. They don't discover the hotcorner, they just think it happened at random. and 2, hotcorners don't work on touch screens.

This kind of launcher should be pre-installed in elementary os. Incredibly useful. Not wasted space on Docky.

Great idea, one for the Expo plugin like in Unity and in OSX for spaces would also be a very useful launcher.

maybe a control center for elementary would be better, with all the user settings + the expo plugin?
by the way, we should edit the default compiz settings, i believe the animations are too fast (80) and should be configured to a greater number (300?).

I think it's a great idea to put a Scale launcher in the dock, and i also disagree with hotcorners wich are triggered by mistake. But i like everything to be very clear and not mixing applications and manipulation. This is my idea, using awn lucido with expanders. this might get even better in plank i guess:

what do you think?

I made a mockup with these ideas. mixing together the old wingpanel look with a dock behavior. Hope it's usefull, a good window management interface is the key for a placid desktop

I have to say, I think this is really interesting

Very interesting indeed, but I can't help but feel very congested and
cluttered when I look at that screenshot. I'm probably crazy, and either way
it would definitely be opt-out via Switchboard.

In that case, I like this idea ;)

I would Like to add some 2 cents as well lol I really like the idea of adding scale as a Launcher Icon by default. It would be really great for new users. But I personally might remove it after fresh installing Luna. So there should be an easy way to get it back, especially for new users that might remove things without knowing what they do first.

The attached launcher does not work in the compiz version shipped with Precise. All commands and scripts given at http://wiki.compiz.org/Plugins/Dbus also don't work.
