Lock screen fails first time if I'm away for several hours

Bug Description
So if I lock my screen super+l and return to the computer to login again either right away or within say an hour or so, it all works fine. However, each morning, returning to work, I *always* need to login twice as the first attempt seems to hang, and my monitors go back to sleep and the lock screen is re-activated.
