Bug Description
If there's no hardware acceleration, there's no animations which makes Gtk.revealer behave a bit funky. We've already had reports from people in a VM about extra space in the panel and in Calculator. This stuff shows up on YouTube "reviews" and reflects poorly on us.
A way to deal with this might be to throw a warning that hardware acceleration isn't available and some things may look or behave incorrectly.
