Spotify notifications cannot be turned off

There is no way to turn off the notifications for Spotify which add up and distract from more important notifications, since the notifications symbol remains red.

Unfortunately, we have no control over the .desktop file of the Spotify app. However, as a workaround, you can disable notifications from within the app.

That works fine, except that I want to see the notifications, I just don't want them to be stored in my notification tray. There is no way to exclude spotify notifications - via a filter or similar - before they get stored?

It is required that an application who wishes to use the notifications API advertise this in its .desktop file: https://elementary.io/docs/code/getting-started#making-preparations

Spotify does not do that out of the box.

I think the way going forward will be to block all notifications coming from all apps who do not advertise this in their file, which I think will be more in line with what will happen in the future with Snappy/Flatpak.
