Bug Description

On a clean elementary Freya install, plus updates, I tried to install nvidia drivers. Won't work, because lib32gcc1 depends on lib32gcc1, and:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 lib32gcc1 : Depends: gcc-4.9-base (= 4.9-20140406-0ubuntu1) but 4.9.1-0ubuntu1 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Seems that lib32gcc1 and gcc-4.9-base are out of sync.

summary: - lib32gcc1 depends on gcc-4.9-base

Problem went away after I disabled "backports - unsupported" and enabled "updates"

How can you do that from the command line?

All I have found is (from http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1401309.html ):
sudo apt-get remove linux-backports-modules-karmic-generic
sudo apt-get autoremove

Is this the right thing to do for disabling "backports - unsupported"? Also how do you enable "updates"?

Thanks a lot.

I disabled / enabled these repo's via the GUI of elementaryOS: "About this
computer" -> "Check for Updates" -> "Settings"
