Speaker crackling sound at 100% volume

volume at 100% makes the speakers to crack.

It is most likely a hardware issue, unless it just happens in elementary OS or in a certain app. Please elaborate.

I have the same issue on my iMac, in osx the sound is less loud when it is on 100%.
lookes like osx lowers the maximum volume so it doesn't crack, elementary doesn't do that.
Is there some type of software to lower to lower THE maximum volume?
