Bug Description
I did a clean install of the current (20140810) freya 0.3 beta 1 on my Dell XPS15 L502x laptop (Sandy Bridge Core i5 w/HD graphics and Nvidia GT540M 2GB; optimus enabled) and after installing the nvidia-331-updates and nvidia-prime package to switch between the GPUs, the system asks for my password after a reboot instead of showing the desktop.
When I type it in manually, it blinks a couple times, like it is trying to start the x server, but then gets back to the login page. The combination was working fine with Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS.
I removed the packages via console and installed nvidia-current and the bumblebee packages, which seem to work fine for now.

After installing nvidia-prime, and before rebooting I ran:
sudo prime-select intel
and this problem went away for me.
I purged all bumblebee, nvidia, primus packages. I ran auto remove and did a dpkg -l | grep nvidia to make sure that no nvidia packages were installed. I then rebooted my box. After that I installed:
nvidia-prime nvidia-331
waited for the install to finish, and then I ran
sudo prime-select intel
It told me that it was updating alternatives. I then rebooted and the problem went away.
