VLC will not play a DVD

Installed VLC as per the instructions. Works on Mint 17. Loads menu screen but it doesn't play & is not clickable.

Did it. The opening frame of the menu opens on the movie but doesn't fully load. The movie menu is not clickable. I've never encountered this problem with vlc & ubuntu.
