Wine game: can't play fullscreen, windowed mode works fine

Bug Description
I play War Thunder using Playonlinux and Wine.
The game stays minimized in the dock when I try to run it in full screen mode. The content of the game screen is visible in the workspace overview and in the window overview, so the game is running. I can use 'ALT-TAB' to switch to the game but from the moment I release the keys, the game minimizes again.
Running the game in windowed mode does not display this behavior.
Fresh install, fully updated.
Graphics card: Mobility Radeon HD5600, using the open source drivers.
