applications not started automatically

Bug Description

After booting, up until the lightdm... i guess.. it works fine. After logging in, its just a blank screen without gala, wingpanel and plank. However, the terminal still works with Ctrl + Alt + T ... so I can still do things...

After trying to update with whatever means.... (I tried sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade and using the software center) I kinda solved the problem with apt-get install -f

After reboot, wingpanel, gala and plank automatically started.. well I don't know what I was doing and I don't know what happened. Though it still can't update
