fn key and up and down keys deem and brighten screen but Luna freezes

this is the second time I am trying. 1. function keys and up and down keys brighten or deemed screen, but then Luna freezes and must be restarted. 2. pdf files downloaded in Midori cant be read (letters, numbers and symbols) that make no sense. The same pdf can be downloaded in firefox no problem

Thank you to all the Linux community. I still have windows in my computer but it has not been opened in weeks. I love Linux. I have learned so much in the last few weeks trying Luna, than all the hours through the years of using Windows. Any problem I have had with Luna, except the two above, has had a readily available, and easily implemented answer. With Windows is like trying to pull teeth without anesthesia.
