Workrave application not working properly

Workrave is an application to prevent and reduce RSI.
I installed it from the repo and the applet doesn't appear in the panel.
In addition, while running eOS in virtualbox, the break screen doesn't work properly. If virtualbox is running full screen, instead of blocking input and showing a screen with exercises, it just blocks input. Going out of full screen mode shows the correct exercises screen but going back to full screen gives a black screen.
I'm guessing this is a matter of the screensaver not playing nicely with Workrave.
