Files doesn't properly handle browsing on Android 4.0+ devices

While browsing on an Android 4.0+ device (in my case, a Nexus 7), all files and folders look the same, and all have the generic file icon. The text in the pathbar is also incorrect. I've attached a screencast to show what it looks like in Files, and how it looks (correctly) in Nautilus.

Just as a note, I've upgraded gvfs and libmtp by adding the langdalepl/gvfs-mtp PPA, which is required to mount/view the newer devices.

Which drivers do you use for mounting nexus 7? Gomtp or something else (I need to mount mine too) :)

If you install the updated versions of gvfs and libmtp (in the langdalepl/gvfs-mtp PPA mentioned above) you don't need Gomtp, you can just plug it in and it works!

Hi, i have the same problem. I have installed the updated versions from langdalepl/gvfs-mtp but i see only generic file icons in pantheon-files. I am pretty sure that in nautilus i don't have this problem.

This is also happenning to me now. My Samsung tab and my Oppo Find 5 are not getting detected. I've also tried with Thunar and PCManFM, and nothing.

I think the importance of this bug should be re-evaluated. Managing our smartphone music colections, for instance, is a basic thing we all expect to be able with an OS, specially after its stable release.

Adding langdalepl/gvfs-mtp PPA and upgrading does fix it.

It is still, IMHO, something that should work out of the box.

If it is a matter of driver versions then it is not really a Files bug. However, browsing over mtp does have some issues in Files.
