cedar trail drm driver causes x to crash

Hi everyone,

this is the first time I report a bug so I don't know if I am doing it right anyways here is the story :

I have recently installed elementary OS on an ASUS EEEPC 1025C. After the installation the driver manager "jokey" told me that the driver "Cedar trail drm driver in DKMS format" was avaliable for my computer.

So I clicked on activate but after the installation my screen went black.

I tried to solve this problem and I found a way to fix this up.

Just run these commands as root :
cp /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.bak
jockey-text -e kmod:cedarview_gfx
cp /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.bak /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

You can also find attached a bash file containing these commands.

I forgot to add that you have to reboot after running these commands :

sudo reboot -h now

The bug is a problem with the packages you installed, the packages rewrites the lightdm.conf file to Ubuntu's specification i.e Unity etc.
This problem also arises on xubuntu and lubuntu with the same package.

just check is you have a file named lightdm.conf.cedarview-drm in /etc/lightdm/.
after you install the packages.
Then you might not need to exec the "jockey-text -e kmod:cedarview_gfx" part,
just do:
mv /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.old
mv /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.cedarview-drm /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

i have a Cedarview(gma3600/gma3650) hardware[Asus Eeepc 1225c] that runs Ubuntu 12.04 as its primary OS, i am really interested Elementary OS, can you share your hardware's perfomance with the OS,[as a personal message maybe, because that's not directly related with this bug]

Unfortunately, the original Ubuntu package fails to build from source.

Filed bug 1183342 about the original build failure, but I'm afraid we'll have to figure it out ourselves as well.

I've linked a branch that's supposed to fix this. As soon as we fix the build failure in the original package we'll be able to land it for testing.
