Bug Description

Receiving a chat notification in Empathy slows my entire desktop down. The red dock alert bubble and the top-left desktop notifications only fade in or jump for about three frames so it looks like a slide show. Any other applications running at the time also slow down just as much, however, this slowdown is only visual, as music (from Pandora or VLC) is not interrupted. Everything goes back to normal when the dock notification is finished.

I'm using the 64 bit version of the latest beta. I'm using a Saphhire 6870 with the stable proprietary 12.10 AMD binaries.

Proprietary AMD drivers are not supported because support for pantheon/mutter/gnome-shell is still in development at AMD. According to the feedback we get, you are fortunate your system boots.
