Bug Description

elementary OS needs to ship all the default apps with a consistent look.
So you need to patch or modify Archive Manager.

I'm afraid simply patching file-roller won't provide good enough user experience. Handling archives transparently like folders might be a better idea.

This was my reaction to similar idea for a Windows archiver handling archives transparently:

"There are still some things that the simple GUI would have trouble achieving: how would you compress each file with different compression settings (or modify archive compression settings at all), password-lock only some of the files, or add a commentary to the archive? How would the users react if it either moved files for too long time or if it did a fast, but weak compression, compared to specialized archivers (read "any archiver with GUI today")?"

Considering that on Linux there is smaller (perceived) need to compress files with different algorithms inside one archive and to use separate passwords - since the files are usually TARed into a single one anyway - I would only like to raise a thought about the UX. In case you moved a large file into LZMA/xz archive, seeing it as a folder, at tightest compression level you would compress at most at tens of MBs per second, even with 6-core and SSD. Which is seemingly slow.

I'm gonna "won't fix" this. File Roller is a good archiver and it's mostly pretty hidden anyways
