Bug Description

Hi,
after installing easypeasy 1.6 on my dual boot (Win XP Home edition and until today: easypeasy 1.1) the grub boot loader does not show any operating system in its menu. Just two lines with memtest86+ are available.

I re-formated the former easypeasy root file system and the former /home partition for a clean installation. I tried ext3 and ext4, with no difference.

The content of the boot directory as it was installed on the hard disk:
ls -l of boot/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 640617 2010-04-16 13:01 abi-2.6.32-21-generic
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 115847 2010-04-16 13:01 config-2.6.32-21-generic
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 2010-05-08 20:37 grub
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 13376276 2010-05-08 20:37 initrd.img-2.6.32-21-generic
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 160280 2010-03-23 09:37 memtest86+.bin
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1687378 2010-04-16 13:01 System.map-2.6.32-21-generic
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1196 2010-04-16 13:03 vmcoreinfo-2.6.32-21-generic

The boot/grub/menu.lst file is missing, too.

For me it seems, that the linux kernel (I guess vmlinz-2.6.32-21-generic) is missing and boot/grub/menu.lst was not created.
Looks like a problem writing the boot configuration.

The installation itself did not start from the usb stick either, I had to type in the grub boot command "ubnkern initrd=/ubninit file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper" (from http://wiki.geteasypeasy.com/Troubleshooting:_Installation).
I got a message that something went wrong configuring apt-get Unfortunately I do not have the exact message any more. Besides this the installation performed smoothly.

The installation systems itself runs well, network (eth0) works and wlan seems to work, too. At least it shows the existing wlan access points. Everything looks promising.

My hardware:
ASUS Eee Pc 1002HA, 160 GB disk, 2 GB ram.
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 5099 40957686 7 HPFS/NTFS

Thanks for any suggestion.

Addendum:
Easypeasy 1.6 is now running.
I extracted the kernel from linux-image-2.6.32-21-generic_2.6.32-21.32_i386.deb and placed it in /boot (using the live system).
After restart I was able to boot this kernel manually from the grub console.
Finally I generated a new /boot/grub/grub.cfg using grub-mkconfig.
The menu.lst file is no more needed by the new grub version.
