I have the same problem when shutting down from the livecd. Using 1.6 rc1 on acer aspire one.

Problem remains in 1.6 final :'(

I haven't tried installing to see if it only affects shutting down from livecd yet. Its possible that the problem doesn't exist once installed, but this is surely optimistic.

After installing and updating 1.6 final this problem did not occur the last time I shutdown. I saw that some parts of init were upgraded in the initial update - perhaps the problem has already been addressed?

This error appeares still after installation
Unfortunately afterwards no boot ist possible, because it tells me that /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 gives 256.
I have the strong feeling, that this error is caused due to the errorneous shutdown-process.
I CAN'T LOGON ANY MORE - so this is (for me) a major problem
