I'm able to mitigate this bug (though not eliminate it) by reducing the fade speed a couple of notches down from maximum.

I'm using Earcandy 0.9 on Ubuntu 10.04 and the problem isn't resolved. I've tried with rhythmbox, flash , vlc and totem.

Using 0.9+bzr12-1 (from natty) on maverick, the fade speed has to be very, very (unusably) slow to eliminate the stuttering.
