Bug Description

The code is riddled with "functions" implemented in cpp macros. We're using C++ - these should in almost every case be re-done as template functions for type safety.

If you want to work on this, go to the blueprint and claim a file to work on by adding your id to the front of the line in square brackets. Additionally, change TODO to ONGOING, and then to DONE when you are done.

Hi Akash,

I think this one is about done, only a few not-so-easy cases remain. You might want to use irc://freenode.net/drizzle and ask for a good issue to get started.
