add unit tests for Dot.py

Dot.py has numerous methods that could be tested, like all those that execute in __init__, and others.

These should be unit tested as appropriate. For example, We could adding a dot file in test data with known characteristics (number of nodes, number of joins, etc) and add tests for these.
