Dolphin does not show jpeg previews

Bug Description
I'm running Dolphin in Kubuntu 22.04. I have a folder containing some JPEGs. They show up as the JPEG icon. I want them to show up as previews. In Dolphin I go to Settings / General / Previews. "JPEG Images" is checked, but the icons are not replaced by previews. I can see the preview of any particular file by clicking on it, but that does not solve the problem of displaying the whole folder as a collection of previews (also called thumbnails).
I believe that this worked correctly several years ago, so the bug is likely the result of an update.
