Dolphin does not show correctly the non-ASCII characters through ssh (with UTF8 locale)

When I connect to another Ubuntu through ssh with Dolphin, the non-ASCII characters (like á é ñ etc.) are showed like á Ã- etc. If I connect directly with ssh through console, and I do an ls, these characters are showed correctly.
I have UTF8 locale in both systems.

I saw that I have the same problem with Konqueror.

I can add this information: If you open the same adress in konqueror, you have an option in the menu (i think it was in extras) to change the encoding to utf-8. Afterwards the right encoding appears as well in dolphin. Don't know where it is stored (using d3lphin on Kubuntu Gutsy).

I can confirm that this is still happening in Konqueror 3.5.9 and Dolphin 0.9.2 on KDE 3.5.9
I didn't try with KDE 4

64-bit hardy w. KDE4.1beta2 and confirm this bug.. Desktop in Finnish should be shown as 'Työpöytä' but it's shown "Työpöytä". UTF-8 of course on both ends.

I can confirm this bug both for KDE 3.5.9 and KDE 4.1 RC packages.
Even more, when I am trying to copy something over the network using konqueror or dolphin, I am ending with the not correct filenames.

The same occurs using the Samba protocol through Konqueror and Dolphin.

If I use command line scp to copy the files, or ssh just to "play" on the remote computer, everything is fine.

I can confirm that in Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.1 Konqueror seems to assume ISO-8859-1 for all remote connections via SSH. As every Linux distro that I have tested in the past three years defaults to UTF-8 for every locale, Konqueror should either:
1) Assume UTF-8
2) Assume that whatever is used locally (check system locale) is used remotely.
3) Query the remote server for locale (simply run "locale" upon connecting via SSH). This is probably not possible for FTP connections.

I have just upgraded Kubuntu 8.10 to KDE 4.2 and the problem seems to be fixed there. At least Dolphin displays Unicode characters (Cyrillic) for SFTP connections.

Yes, there were several improvements to the handling of unicode characters by the kio slaves in KDE 4.2.

The same behaviour in Kubuntu 9.04 64bit with KDE 4.3.
