Red Alert status not being applied to document

Bug Description

We have setup shell scripts (run by cronjobs) to update the DL and harvest in Silva roughly every 15 minutes or so.

This morning I am receiving an email every 15 mins from the DL telling me that a document of mine is going to expire in 7 days. This email should only be sent once. I went into the DL and the relevant document has not been given the 'red alert' status (to show that the automated expiry email has been sent). Presumably this is why it keeps sending me an email every 15 minutes because it doens't realise that it already has sent it!

Unless we can get thins fixed quickly, we will have to turn off email notifications until this can be resolved as the DL is effectively spamming my account at the moment!

(This is the second time I'be thought I'd sent an update to launchpad, only for it to vanish without a trace! Apologies if this appears twice at some point!)

Further information:

An update was performed to the OS on the web server last week. It looks highly likely that one of these updates has broken the 'red alert' status in the DL.

I have emailed the logfiles in the hope that it gives some clues as to what has happened.

auto_expire_alerted is also not being added to the 'history' in the DL for my soon-to-be-expired document. Presumably this entry in 'history' is not appearing because it is linked to the 'red alert' status which also isn't currently working?
