Some apps spawn a new, wrong/default icon when running

In XFCE, some default apps (like the xfce-terminal or thunar, for example) don't display their running status as colored dots below their launcher icons, but instead they pop up with a completely different, plain-default icon.

I've attached a screenshot, what it looks like if you launch the default xfce4-terminal with docky:
*) The terminal's launcher is displayed correctly (4th icon from left)
*) But when the terminal's running, a new (default?) icon is displayed
*) This can be seen on the screenshot: mouse-over hint of the grey default-icon says "xfce4-terminal"

Is this something to be configured within the app-launcher details?

I forgot to add the details of my Docky installation:

Please attach the launcher (.desktop file) for xfce-terminal. Please also run the program and from a terminal run this command and give us the output:

ps -ef | grep terminal

I've been able to determine a temporary solution that may be able to help.

Using:

sudo cp /usr/share/applications/[applicationName].desktop ~/.local/share/applications/

where [applicationName] = generic name of application with problem

will fix the issue temporarily. I am about to restart and attempt to recreate the issue. However, it seems that so far it has been fixed. Please see screenshot.

Further to Dexter's comment, you could just create a link to /usr/share/applications in ~/.local/share, so:

ln -s /usr/share/applications ~/.local/share/

That way you don't have to make a duplicate file for each application that might be affected.

This is still a problem in Ubuntu 15.10 / Docky 2.2.1.1.

In short, just drag proper Thunar and Xfce Terminal icons from /usr/share/applications to your Dock, then pin it. It worked for me.
