Bug Description

It might be nice if the background color of the Active Window Indicator could be customized or selected to be the same color for all the icons. Right now I think it is based on the color of the current icon.

Also, currently the icon's background is sort of a gradient (only for 2D panel). Perhaps the active window could be indicated by a glow around the icon (this could apply to 3D panel as well)?

(Right now I'm running Docky 2.0.5 on Ubuntu 10.04.1.)

@Dan: thoughts?

Regarding the bg color, it is not going to change (or be configurable).

What about a 'glow' instead? I don't think I would like that.

I definitely have to agree with Robert that allowing customization here is overkill.

What about the little spotlight glow thingy that AWN had at one point? Maybe something more subtle from that.

In my personal opinion, I don't find it useful to distinguish the active window from other windows. But that's just me.

I appreciate you guys considering this. I suppose people have different thoughts on how / whether to identify the active window. Perhaps there could be a single option in the gconf settings to disable the active window indicator?

That is probably the only customization I can see happening. It wouldn't be hard to add a gconf key for that.

The question still remains for Dan though, do we want to change how it looks? We should probably do *something* because I just realized that the 2d and 3d docks don't look the same now due to the fact the 2d one has an active indicator and the 3d doesn't (for good reason, currently). So perhaps we should come up with one that works in both 2d and 3d?

I was reading this and it seemed interesting, so I thought I'd take a couple screenshots and make some mockups of the ideas I see here. (Please excuse the quality of these mockups, I am not very experienced with GIMP. Also, ignore the line along the right side of the images, that appeared when I took the screenshot and I saw no need to get rid of it.)

I made two, one with icon glow and one showing a 3D version of what you would see in Docky's 2D mode (that is, a gradient lying down on the dock). Personally, I think the latter might work out better, because to me it looks better and it's consistent with what we already have.
