Bug Description

Is this a glitch?

I can uncheck the setting for "Manage Windows Without Launcher" in Docky 2.0 settings.

I I could uncheck this option, would it prevent the selected Dock from showing icons other than the ones that are pinned? If so, i really would like this option to work!!!

It should work anyways!

Thanks. :)

(There is no output in the console other than normal Docky output. No errors or anything.)
Distro: Arch Linux
Gnome version: 2.30.0

One dock (and exactly one) must have that checked.

Changed in docky:
status: New → Invalid

What you say is correct, but what if you don't want to use it that way?
Any other dock out there can be used without having it managing your windows, how can it be so hard for Docky to not do that?

I want to keep using my panel, but in addition I want to use a dock to launch applications and go to folders, which I don't want to put in my panel because they would take up to much space and a dock is much prettier than a second panel.

It'd be a feature some might use if docky could be used solely for launching applications (but not manage their windows). That could come in handy if docky is on the side of the screen and you still have normal panels on the top or bottom.

But Docky isn't (nor will it ever be) designed to operate that way.

Docky is not designed to be for everyone. If it does not fit your
purposes and another dock does, then we recommend you use that other
dock.

Yeah but the other docks just aren't as nice as Docky, despite the fact.

One thing Docky really needs though is an edge-of-screen motion delay like OSX's dock. I posted my idea here: https://answers.launchpad.net/docky/+question/145840

From a functionality perspective, this would solve the problem where if I have a hidden dock on the right side of the screen and accidentally touch the side of the screen while reaching for a right-side scrollbar docky pops out and causes a nuisance while trying to scroll.

In constrast, the OSX dock unhides when you rest your cursor so if you are reaching on the edge of the screen and briefly hit the edge while trying to scroll or press a button, the dock won't immediately pop out and get all in the way.

By the way, a big downside of Docky not having the delay feature i just mentioned is that if I try and drag a scrollbar on the right side of the screen but accidentally hit the screen's edge before pressing the mouse button, I will accidentally grab an icon from the dock and drag it, instead of dragging the scrollbar, forcing me to place the icon back, re-hide Docky, then carefully start the process all over.

I really like Docky though, and would be very pleased if this feature came out.

Our solution to the edge trigger is a gconf configurable delay on
unhiding. Look at our wiki in the gconf settings page for that key.

True. I'm aware of this feature, but the downside of that is that you have to wait for the delay even if you stop moving your mouse. In OSX, you can go to the edge of the screen and stop immediately to quickly reveal the dock. It seems to be the almost perfect solution. I'll give the delay a go and see how i like it though.
