Cannot drop items on dock with desktop disabled

Bug Description

When I deactive Nautilus’ desktop drawing (/apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop), Docky no longer accepts dropped items.

I found out about it when I accidentally removed a launcher and tried to add it back by dragging the .desktop link from a file browser window. Adding items by editing the configuration or temporarily enabling desktop drawing works.

Distro version: Ubuntu 9.10
Docky version: 2.1.0 bzr docky r1229 ppa
Kernel version: 2.6.33.20633
CLR version: 2.0.50727.1433

Can you please run Docky with the '--debug' flag and paste the terminal output here?

If it would have shown any relevant error, I had already done it. But here you are. By the way, behaviour is the same on my desktop and my laptop.

This is because we use the desktop window as a drop proxy.

I don't know why we use a drop proxy, Jason wrote all the drag/drop code. I'll look into it but for now just know that your observed behavior is expected - we need something to draw the desktop window.
