This is also affecting me - I am unable to start the helper. Sometimes, the helper seems to cause a freeze within docky such that when I open the docky preferences, navigate to helpers, enable the skype helper, and then close the docky preferences window, dock behaves as if the preferences window is still up (i.e. it's still outlined in reddish orange, and I can't click any of my icons). I need to force close docky and restart in order for it to work correctly again.

@Scott: the problem you mention is not a DockManager issue. That is a Docky issue. Please feel free to file a bug about that against the 'docky' project on launchpad. Please check to ensure this bug has not already been reported there. Note that it might be listed more general but should probably mention a freeze when closing preferences.

The fact the Skype helper triggers it is just coincidental (I think).
