Bug Description

I use several web applications that change the title of window with the number of unread items. Examples:
- GMail: Inbox (10) <email address hidden> - GMail
- GReader: Google Reader (1000+)
- Twitter: (5) docky - Twitter Search

I would like to have a badge in each icon of all applications with the number of unread items in title of the window (like in the dock of OSX http://is.gd/a5s8u ). Is really useful for web applications (Prism or Chrome apps).

Um, just to clarify that you will need a helper for whatever browser is used. That helper will have to parse the title of the open window(s) and attempt to match against specific web-sites.

This probably will not be implemented. There are a lot of variables in this to consider such as browser (firefox? chrome? konq?) and it is dependent on the title of the window which means if you switch to another tab it will think the 'app' is gone.

Changed in docky:

I understand the problem with the tabs of the browsers but Prism and Chrome apps use separate windows. It use one window for each web and don't support tabs.

Other idea but this is with the user intervention. Add a option (disabled by default) in all launchers for enable a badge with a counter. I think that the parser is simple, the de facto standard is a number in parentheses, is website and application agnostic.

Right but as of right now, Chrome/Prism apps are all grouped together by Docky. Thus you may have 1 'chrome app' for gmail and another for 'google reader', but both are grouped together under 1 icon so which one gets to set the badge?

OK, more ideas :) . A docklet that only show the icons of the windows with unread items + badges with counter, if no window with unread items this show nothing. Like a notification area but without interactivity.
