'Chat' function (Pidgin) freezes application

Bug Description
I notice that there are similar bugs reported, but ultimately the process to reproduce the issue is different, so I'll just have to create a new report. It's simple though, call up the application "super + space", and type 'C', which at first brings up "Chat", even though at times I'll mean to try and call "Close" to close a window or any other function starting with 'C'. But if the Chat option comes up first, the application hangs for at least several minutes and CPU usage increases at least above 90% and more.

Oh! Addendum: The 'Chat' option has to be the first option to come up in order to make the application hang.
