Bug Description

It's taken a bit longer than I hoped, but I think things are finally getting to the point that I can commit to maintaining compatibility with the "version 1" dmedia schema.

This is not to say I wont consider breaking backward compatibility, but I wont do so without providing well testing migration functionality to losslessly migrate existing documents to the newer schema. The commitment is to the user's data, not the exact format it's stored in. A commitment to the exact schema will come soon enough, but that can't be rushed and requires a thorough trial by fire.

A few changes I know I'm going to make preparing for version 1:

 1) Move all the extracted metadata (width, height, iso, aperture, shutter) into its own "meta" attribute to namespace this and also hint to user interfaces that this should generally be treated as read-only information intrinsic to the file in question

 2) Move all the user editable attributes like "title", "notes", etc to their own "user" attribute to namespace them and hint to the user interface that these are editable

 3) Finish the "tags" schema - based on feedback from artists, I think we almost have a tagging schema that encompasses the features and flexibility that people are asking for

 4) Add a "media" attributed which if present would have a value like "video", "audio", "image", etc to provide a simple way to build views that show you, for example, all videos

 5) Add "ver" attribute with value "1"... this is how migration code would find version 1 documents and migrate them to possible future versions

Okay, just landed this in trunk. Ended up calling it version 0 instead of 1, as that seemed more appropriate.

The only thing that isn't totally finalized is the internal tags schema, for which I filled this bug:
