icon disappears from taskbar in ubuntu 17.10

After using diodon for about an hour, the icon disappeared from the taskbar.
Two diodon tasks were running. I killed both, then restarted diodon.
The icon did not reappear.
I tried adding
Exec=env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity diodon %u

to ~/.local/share/applications/diodon.desktop
and then to ~/.config/autostart/diodon.desktop

I also tried (in tcsh)
setenv XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP Unity
and then starting diodon. Still no icon

As you are using 17.10 are you running Gnome on Wayland?

If you could attach output of following command, that would be helpful:

This should technically work. But could it be that you have installed the version from the official archive?

This is not the newest in 17.10. So you can either install newest from stable ppa <https://code.launchpad.net/~diodon-team/+archive/ubuntu/stable> or upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 where newest version is in the official repository.

This is a fairly old bug and there hasn't been any feedback for a while.

I am marking this as invalid but if someone can still reproduce this issue on a newer system please comment.
