Bug Description

Binary package hint: digikam

Apparently digiKam cannot rebuild thumbnails for an album or a selection of albums. It is only possible to rebuild thumbnails for the entire collection.
This is not feasibly most photographers as they often have huge collections. Rebuilding thumbnails for an entire collection can take hours or even days.

Steps to reproduce:
1: Open digiKam
2: Right click on an album in My Albums
3: Observe that there is no "Rebuild thumbnails for this album" option.
4: Click on the Tools menu.
5: Select Rebuild All Thumbnails
6: Sit back and waste hours of CPU time while generating thumbnails for the entire collection.

Hi !

I believe hiting F5 will rebuild the thumbnails of the current view. Tell me if I am mistaken

Oliver, F5 only rebuilds the thumbnails for the current view. This is not useful for large albums. It is also not useful for albums containing sub-albums.

By the way, I think there should be an option to have digiKam give the thumbnailing process for rebuilding all thumbnails a low nice-value like 10 or so. It is a very CPU intensive procedure and it takes a long time for collections of a reasonable size.

Confirming with Digikam 0.10.0 beta 8. This should be reported upstream as a wishlist item.

Hello,

Thanks for reporting this feature request! Unfortunately, at this time Kubuntu does not have the developer manpower needed to implement and maintain many features at the Kubuntu level. This wish would best be reported and tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that it can be implemented by the KDE developers themselves. Once implemented in KDE, it will be included in Kubuntu once the KDE version the feature is implemented in reaches Kubuntu.

Thanks!
