Bug Description

The current workaround is to:

Immediately switch (after starting your video) to the "Slides" view and switch back. This will kill the double audio.

---

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Using Lucid Lynx and OpenOffice 3.2.0.

openoffice.org-presenter-console using two monitors

sound from embedded movie is generated (fed to speakers) from both the console presenter pane and the projection screen. This is a new bug, or rather a regression to a problem when presenter console was first introduced.

Sound should only come from the projection screen

Let me know if you need more debugging information, or testing.

This bug also exists in Karmic (x32) using the PPA-Scribblers repo builds

the bug creates a lag between the two sound streams giving the auditory impression of an echo

When using the presenter console, any slide with a video in it will create a horrible echo due the the two copies of the video that show. One shows on the projector and one for the presenter, but they are not in sync, and this causes a horrible echo. The sound for the presenter video is not needed, only the sound for the video that the audience sees. I'm using Ubuntu 10.4 with the version of Open Office found in the repositories, and the Presenter Console extension from the repositories. I need the ability to look ahead in the presentation at the next slide, and so have to use the Presenter Console extension, but this bug is stopping me using Open Office Impress for my presentations, and so I have to use a Windows Laptop until this is resolved. Quite an important issue that concerns professional speakers and teachers who show video clips to their audiences.

Can you please attach an example document exhibiting this problem and explain when the echo is expected to be heard, eg if it is just on one particular slide etc.

Thanks,

Chris

This bug is known upstream in OpenOffice. It is fixed in the 3.3 release. The Ubuntu packagers also know about this bug. The current workaround is to (1) immediately switch (after starting your video) to the "Slides" view and switch back. This will kill the double audio. Or (ii) uninstall the presenter console, or (iii) go back to OpenOffice 3.1 (from karmic).

cement_head,

Do you happen to know the upstream bug number so that I can attach it to this bug? I am the Ubuntu packager of OOo, so if I did know about it before I somehow managed to forget.

Thanks,

Chris

@Richard

Can you confirm this issue ( http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=116862 ) at OpenOffice.org for LO 3.3?

Then maybe we can get this fixed

Hi Chris,

This bug was never fixed. I've opened an Issue at OO.org:

Yes, this bug is in LO 3.3 with the presenter console.

In fact to insert a video into a presentation in LO 3.3, you have to insert it, then dig into the archive ODP file, and take the media file out of the archive because the presenter gets lost trying to find the media folder within the ODP file.

Once you've fixed the presentation so that the presenter can see the files in the media folder, then when you run the presentation, you have to press F1 twice to kill the presenter console video that causes the echo.

See (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/660807/comments/9)

Richard

I can confirm that this sounkd echo bug is present with LO 3.3.0 in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx.

I can also confirm that Richard's workaround (Post #13) for embedded media also works in 10.04.1 LTS.

Apparently, OO.org claims that this is not an issue since OO 3.2 on Linux. They claim that the GO-OO, and later LO builds are introducing this bug.

I can reproduce this bug with BOTH the LO deb of the presenter-console and/or the OpenOffice.org (Oracle) presenter-console extension.

P.S. Let me know if you need any diagnostics done for this one.

cement_head (andor-udel), regarding LibreOffice the issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport . If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
