Bug Description

1) lsb_release -rd
 Description: Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
 Release: 11.10

2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-calc
libreoffice-calc:
  Installed: 1:3.4.2-2ubuntu3
  Candidate: 1:3.4.2-2ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.4.2-2ubuntu3 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What is expected to happen with a cell containing the formula:

=a*tau^t*delta^(d-1)*(l*delta^l - d)

where a, tau, delta, d, and l are all named cells or cell-ranges, hit 'F2' to edit that formula, the usual nice trick of color-coded cell names and ranges shows.

4) What happens instead is they do not. One has no way of quickly seeing whether or not the correct values from other cells in the worksheet are picked.

Gnumeric 1.12.27-1 doesn't show this either.

Opening the file up in Excel 2013 causes it to crash, and claim the document is corrupt.

Same problem encountered with Ubuntu for 1 year (the creation of the ods file), consequently I've worked with Windows Vista without any problem.
However with Jaunty Jackalope I can't reproduce it : it seems to be now resolved.

Bug is still present in Jaunty with OOo 3.0.1.

John Pye, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport . If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

In my case, I should elaborate that the colour highlight appear for less
than a second, than disappear suddenly.
