Printer Settings in LibreOffice - Double Sided - Do not stay selected

Bug #1285788 reported by Venturi on 2014-02-27

Bug Description

Os: Gentoo 64 bits
Hplip : 3.14.1
LibreOffice :
Printer : Photosmart 6520 Series

When I go to Printer Properties in LibreOffice Writer and select Auto Duplex settings and click OK, it still prints single sided.

Go back to properties and check the settings and it's not set to Auto Duplex.

I have Auto Duplex setup in hplip and in cups as the default, so my printing from Okular and Firefox duplex print fine automatically.

But Libreoffice still refuses to remember the printer settings and always prints single sided pages.

I don't want to start a war or what ever but this is already reported in the bugtracker of LibreOffice :

So I reported here as well because it's only hplip version 3.14.1 that cause the problem / bug.

I know there is the question of whether this is a Libre Office problem or HPLIP's problem, so I will just make one comment on that. All other software that I printed from, printed duplex with out a problem: Firefox, Thunderbird, Evince, Inkscape, Dia, Okular, (Even) Ninja IDE.
Work around is to "Export as PDF" in Libre Office and then open that document in any supporting program other than Libre Office for printing.
OS: Linux Mint 16 64-bit
Libre Office:
Build ID: 410m0(Build:2)
HPLIP: 3.13.9
Printer HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus

affects: hplip → df-libreoffice
Changed in df-libreoffice:
status: New → Confirmed

I have Ubuntu 13.10 w/ LibreOffice, an HP Photosmart 6520 and HPLIP v 3.14.4. After selecting file/print/properties, in the new window the option for "Duplex" shows "Off". If I change that to "Long-Edge", then "OK", and then select "Properties" again, "Duplex" shows "Off" again. However, if I change "Off" to "<ignore>", then "OK", and then select "Properties" again, now "Duplex" shows "Long Edge" and the printer prints on both sides!

@William T. Lowther: I can confirm that it saves the setting, when I go on as you say. But it still does not print on both sides for me
