Make it easier for apps to use d-c test idioms

While at UDS-N, I talked to lp:~cmiller and lp:~mandel about how desktopcouch does its unit testing, how best to test dmedia and Novacut. There are some convenience functions in `desktopcouch.tests` that would be nice to relocate into `desktopcouch` so they're installed and available for testing apps that use desktopcouch.

Not sure if this was addressed during the sprint, but I'm adding this bug to track it. More apps should use desktopcouch cuz it rocks! Having the recommended desktopcouch testing idioms well documented and simple would be a huge win.

Would having a -dev package that shipped the tests work also?

Works for me, although the testing functionality in question is very tiny, AFAIK.
