Bug Description

I have use the dell recovery tool to creat a "ubuntu-10.04-dell_A00.iso" by a live dvd of ubuntu 10.04 64bit today. However, when I install the ubuntu with this image on my Dell laptop E6400 ,there is no step for seting the password for the user "oem" which would log in automatically after the whole installation is finished.

When I log in the os,there is icon named "Prepare for shipping to end user",but it need the password for user "oem".So I cannot run this to set my os profile .

More unfortunatelly, when I reboot the os,the user "oem" cannot log in automatically. The os ask fot the password that I can not set.

So , I want to know if there is a fixed password for user "oem " and what do I need to complete the whole installation.

You should have been kicked into oem-config mode actually on the next
boot, so there was some other type of failure. Could you add the logs
from /var/log/installer on that target system to investigate?

Thanks for your reply.

I have got into recovery mode and run oem-config-prepare as a root, now
the ubuntu 10.04 is fine on my laptop.

Attached zip file has a log contains both casperlog and syslog.

Hope the project will be better and better!

Did you actuall install using the live mode or the text mode? From those logs it looks like you might have with the text mode. If that's the case, it's an unsupported configuration. Right now it's highly dependent on being able to do things in live mode.

I have create a usb boot disk with "ubuntu-10.04-dell_A00.iso" and
boot my laptop with it.
Then there is only a dell recovery to continue the installation. Is
this the text mode?

Is the live mode the "using the ubuntu without changing the
system"?And do you mean I must use this option to boot the computer
just like a live cd and continue the installation by double clicking
the icon "Install the Ubuntu" on desktop?

If this is true, the installation of "ubuntu-10.04-dell_A00" is
different of the way showed in
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/linux/ubuntu-9-10-factory-reinstallation.aspx
,there is no interactive way to choose when you boot the computer with
this recovery img .

In oposite, the installation for 10.4. (Install DVD was created similar to http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/linux/building-base-ubuntu-factory-iso.aspx.):

I'm afraid the DVD created for 10.4 isn't usefull for end customers. No Chance for changing language, no chance for giving username and password.

By chance are you guys pressing a key at that screen that times out after 5 seconds?

If so, I think I might have identified the bug. In the meanwhile, until it's fixed you can use the image at:
