sorry the screenshot was not taken on my Dell Mini, it has been picked somewhere on the web to point out which screen i'm talking about.

BTW, it seems that new usplash screen (Jaunty) is centerd on the screen and therefore it may not be stretched anymore (with Jaunty)

I cannot reproduce on my mini. The splash screen is not stretched.

(this bug occurs for me with the Hardy version installed by default on my dell mini 9)

I cannot reproduce this, it may just be the contrast of the expected size on that screen with the size it is actually. Recommend this be marked as invalid.

i have a desktop PC with Ubuntu and the Ubuntu logo is a circle, not an ellipsis.

Mark it as invalid if you want even if it's a valid bug for Hardy.
It doesn't matter since usplash screen has been updated for Jaunty and will be replaced with a Plymouth theme for Jaunty+1

I managed to reproduce it. I tried to change the boot configurations in the following way:

1. edit /usr/lib/usplash.conf to the proper configuration (1024x600 instead of the default but oviously wrong 1024x768)
2. edit the vga code in the boot menu.

I still get the stretch splash screen. Unfortunately the mini 9 video driver does not handle in vga mode widescreen, so any code which doesn't correspond to either 800x600 or 648x480 is not accepted.

So really the simplest way to fix this is by recreating the splash screen image stretched in the opposite direction so that it appears correctly at boot.
