Bug Description

Hi there,

I use my dell-mini 12 with Dell defaults SO. In "Clasic desktop", my desktop view is showing the contents of "/home/myuser" instead showing the contents of "/home/myuser/Desktop". I guess it is a bug because it's not the default behaivour of UNIX SO.

I like to have a desktop without any contents, how I could do it?

My system:

$ uname -a
Linux myhost 2.6.24-19-lpia #1 SMP Mon Nov 3 15:25:26 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

I use GNOME as desktop in a dell mini 12"

I cannot replicate this bug on mini 9. My Desktop view shows /home/user/Desktop/

Have you made any configuration changes? Do you see this in a freshly installed ubuntu for the mini?

Brian, could you bring me an example of template filled? I have doubts about what I should write in the first two fields: "Build Version/Date" & "Environment used for testing"

Not a problem. For the build version what is most important is whether or not you are using the customized Dell version of Ubuntu (which you already noted). Environment is the machine you are using, include the bios version and any other information about your physical machine you think is relevant. The rest of the template is pretty straight forward, describe the problem you are seeing, tell how someone else might be able to do it on their machine, say what you think should happen and then contrast that with what actually happened. Basically the more information everyone has about the bug the easier it is for people to target the problem and fix it.

I am not sure if this applies, but what is the language settings you are using? For non-English version the "Desktop" actually takes a different name (i.e. "Scrivania" in Italian). This may be related to the fact you don't see the Desktop...

How do you know that it is displaying the folder instead of the desktop?

It seems to be a GNOME well-known error: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/151576

Posted here just to keep tracking on it. I don't know which is the policy ruling the bugs management: maybe could be a good idea mark this bug as closed as I found out the original source or problem. Could someone do that?
