Bug Description

deja-dup simply fails reporting "Conflict" error message if I run a backup... it works as expected before I clicked on Abort, after that I can't restart the backup

DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup
doens't show anything at all

 * Is "Conflict" the entire text of the error message?
 * What do you mean by the "Abort" button? The button to dismiss the error message?
 * What do you mean by "can't restart the backup"? Do you mean that every time you try to back up, you get this same "Conflict" error?

I'm also interested in:

1. The version of deja-dup and duplicity:
    (if on Ubuntu or Debian:)
    dpkg-query -W deja-dup duplicity

    (if on Fedora or other RPM-based systems:)
    rpm -q deja-dup duplicity

2. The file /tmp/deja-dup.settings after running the following line:
    (if on version 16 or lower)
    gconftool-2 --dump /apps/deja-dup > /tmp/deja-dup.settings

    (if on version 18 or higher)
    gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.DejaDup > /tmp/deja-dup.gsettings

3. The distribution of Linux you're using:
    lsb_release -d

I am reopening this bug. I see absolutely the same when trying to initiate backup.

Answers:
1. "Conflict" is the entire contents of the error message.
2 & 3. n/a — I just click "Backup" and the see "Conflict".

$ dpkg-query -W deja-dup duplicity
deja-dup 18.1.1-0ubuntu1.1
duplicity 0.6.13-0ubuntu1.1

$ lsb_release -d
Description: Ubuntu 11.04

I've had the same problem and might have a fix.

It seems deja-dup refuses to make the specified root directory for the backup (regardless of permissions) on the first run. In my case, after having manually created the (...)/backup/deja-dup directory, this message ("Conflict") no longer occurs and the backup runs without errors.

Hope this helps.

$ dpkg-query -W deja-dup duplicity
deja-dup 20.1-0ubuntu0.2
duplicity 0.6.15-0ubuntu2

$ lsb_release -d
Description: Ubuntu 11.10

+1 Same problem for me

However, Kakao's solution doesn't work for me. The folder already exists and still all I'm getting is "conflict"

deja-dup 20.1-0ubuntu0.2
duplicity 0.6.15-0ubuntu2

Ubuntu 11.10

I'm using Gnome3 as my desktop environment.

I am also seeing the same message. My setup is

deja-dup 20.1-0ubuntu0.2
duplicity 0.6.15-0ubuntu2

Ubuntu 11.10

Additional information that may be relevant:

(1) On the first backup I chose a subdirectiory of my home directory and scheduled an immediate backup - this worked ok. I then changed to backing up all of the home directory and a scheduled backup for three days later and this gave the "Conflict" popup with no other message.

(2) I am using box.net as my webdav server.

I was able to get around this 'conflict'.

On my box.com webdav, there was a partial upload from I believe, a failed previous initial backup (only 8mb instead of 25mb like the rest of the .tar files). It was the last uploaded file, and was corrupted somehow. Once I deleted this file, everything continued on with a new backup as expected.

Perhaps if this occurs, deja-dup should be able to remove the conflicting file (with user confirmation, of course), or provide some sort of more effective error message than just "conflict".

This tool is supposed to be one of the ones that makes Ubuntu simple to use for new users, and something like this really limits that feeling, IMO.

I suspect this was fixed in version 36.x, when webdav support got tightened up a bit. I'm going close this. But please re-open if anyone sees this with newer versions.
