Bug Description

Before I back up I run "dpkg --get-selections > ~/Documents/dpkg-selections.log" to save a record of all installed packages in case I have a system failure and need to restore the whole machine. It would be nice if the user interface allowed the definition of commands to run before and after the backup to automate these tasks.

Alternatively, deja-dup could add a feature "save list of installed packages" to make it more user-friendly and more in line with the idea of the tool.

I don't think such generic support is useful for pre/post commands. But I agree that restoring the list of installed packages is a great idea. It's bug 485628, which I'll mark this a duplicate of.
