Bug Description

Smart backup removal
like in various backup apps such as http://backintime.le-web.org/ or sbackup
(they are also written in python and easy to port over )

where the backups are kept per following rules

-keep all snapshots from today and yesterday
-keep 1 snapshot from the last week and 1 from two weeks ago
-keep one snapshot per month for al previous months of this year
-keep one snapshot per year for all previous years

would save on disk / cloud space but keep a safe amount of data

No news for this feature ?
It would be really great to have an exponential backup removal. Such :

All backup for last 7 days.

2 backup for the week before
1 per week for the next two weeks

2 backup for the month before
1 backup / month for all monthes before.

Is there any news about this bug/new feature ?

Something like jijijaco has written would be very interesting and more efficient and smart for the hard drive.

Add a new choice like "keep smartly "
Keep backups :
- one week
- one month
- two months
- three months
- six months
- one year
- infinity
- "smartly"

I hope we could see this feature in Ubuntu 11.10.
