Bug Description

Ubuntu MATE 18.04.2. I use the built in Backup utility to perform a backup of specific folders weekly, and have set to keep for at least 6 months (only 6 months, 1 year or forever are available).

Latest backup failed with a low disk space error.

The scheduling page of the gui states that "old backups will be deleted earlier if the storage location is low on space".

I have checked status using the command line:

duplicity collection-status file:///media/backup/dejadup/

Which returns:

Last full backup date: Fri Jan 11 20:43:45 2019

My bug report is that Backups are no longer working, old backups are not deleted when the storage location is low on space.

It's invalid (closed) for MATE (not really MATE's issue), but not necessarily invalid for Deja Dup.

Looks like you mostly have incremental backups there. Deja Dup will make a new full backup every 3 months. And incremental backups in between the full ones.

It always wants two full backup chains (full + following incrementals) around, for safety. But any extra, it will delete as needed.

You may just not have enough space on your drive for a full two chains?

Understood. Agreed I dont have enough space. Deja Dup says it will delete
backups as needed, but it turns out this will only happen if 2 full backups
exist. I guess this is a catch 22 which leaves me with no future backups,
ever. In reality off course I just backup manually, but a shame Deja Dup is
rendered useless if you dont have space for 2 full backups.

Thanks for the feedback, it has been very helpful.
