Let me give you the digest from the (german) site mentioned in comment #1:

They install duplicity and python-gi using apt-get.

This raises the question:

How can someone using Ubuntu end up in a state where duplicity and python-gi are not installed but no button is shown within our UI? Strange.

Ubuntu now depends on duplicity and Python-gi again. Shouldn’t get in this state anymore.
